Montana State University System has fourteen campuses under it, which are further divided into different categories and subsystems. All providing varied financial aid to students.

Whether you are a resident of Billings, Missoula, Great Falls, Butte-Silver Bow or anywhere else in the state of Montana, the information below should be relevant for what you need.

Presidential Leadership Scholarship: This is University of Montana’s top scholarship for freshmen. The total award amount each year is $11,300 and $8,800 for Gold and Silver levels respectively, and is renewable for up to four years. The scholarship is based purely on merit. Applications are required to be made through the Davidson Honors College, and the student applying for admission into Davidson Honors College is considered for this scholarship.

MUS Honor Scholarship: Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program offers 200 scholarships of $4,000 per year for four years. Eligibility criteria require the applicant to have a 3.4 GPA ending seventh semester at a Montana high school where the student has been for three years (including senior year) and must be accepted at an eligible campus within the Montana University System. Applicant should also satisfy all Board of Regents Rigorous Core Requirements.

2 Plus 2 Honor Scholarship: Students who graduate along with an associate degree from a two-year program from an eligible institution can avail of tuition wavier for a four-year undergraduate program at a list of eligible institutions. Applicant is required to be a Montana resident who is already enrolled at one of the listed four-year campuses. The scholarship must be utilized in the next sequential semester after receiving the associate degree and has to maintain 3.4 GPA and thirty credit hours to remain eligible. The scholarship can also be transferred between eligible campuses.

Governor’s Best and Brightest Scholarship Program: This scholarship is divided into three. General requirements are that the applicant has be a Montana resident who hasn’t received the System Honor Scholarship from Montana University.

Need-based scholarships are for students in a two-year program, and are allocated to colleges, who in turn are directed on how to award these. $1,000 is awarded per year. Financial need is the sole criteria.

High School Merit Scholarships awards $1,000 per year and is renewable for two or four years depending on the campus being attended by the student. A 3.0 GPA, or 20 on ACT, or 1440 on SAT is required.

Merit-at-Large Scholarships have the award amount and eligibility similar to High School Merit Scholarship. Additionally this scholarship requires the student to be already enrolled in the eligible institution and also encourages application from non-traditional and home-schooled students.

Montana Grants for Colleges & University

Montana Higher Education Grant: This grant is given to the neediest of student so to complete college education. Federal government gives a further incentive to such recipients by matching the aid as given by Montana Higher Education Grant.

Montana Tuition Assistance Grant: Also known as Baker Grant, it gives the award to needy students having EPC (Expected Family Contribution) below $6,550. Since the grants are limited it is best to apply as early as possible.
