Scholarships In Iowa



The educational institutions in Iowa State have many academic achievements to their credit. Ranking within the top three for scores on ACT and SAT, and being third in the US when it comes to graduation rates, are just to name a few. Naturally the state has a number of institutions and scholarships that the students can take advantage of.

Scholarships in Iowa

Whether you are in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Sioux City or anywhere else in Iowa, the information outlined below should be of use to you.

State of Iowa Scholarships: The scholarship gives away awards to students, who have been academically excellent in their senior year at high school, ranking in the top 15% of their class. The applicant must be planning on attending an Iowa university or college for a degree. The amount of grant is $400.

Project Management Institute (PMI) Eastern Iowa Chapter Scholarship: This scholarship sponsored by PMI, provides the tuition to help suitably qualified students to earn a degree from accredited educational institutions. Only students that are applying for a recognized degree in a project management or related program are eligible for this scholarship. Students also note that priority is given to applicants whose parent is a member of PMI Eastern Iowa Chapter. Next preference is for residents of Eastern Iowa, Iowa City, or Cedar Rapids. After that come the applicants residing in the rest of Iowa.

More Iowa Scholarships

  • Iowa Scholarships for the Arts: If you are inclined towards art, and are interested in theatre, literature, dance, music or visual arts, then this scholarship is for you. The applicant must be an Iowa resident and most importantly show artistic promise in any of these arts. The student must also be enrolled on a full-time basis at an accredited Iowa institution and pursuing a major in at least one of the art disciplines. The award amount is $1,000 for a year.
  • Northwest Iowa Chapter Scholarship: All of you, who live within the prescribed region of Northwest Iowa Chapter, are eligible for this scholarship. The applicant must be graduating from high school and should be enrolling at an institution for an engineering program accredited by ABET. The award amount is $500.
  • Iowa Funeral Directors Association Memorial Scholarship Fund: The association grants awards to students who take up a funeral service or mortuary science program, which is recognized by the American Board of Funeral Service Education. Over and above the applicant must be an Iowa resident, have 60 credits and completed two years in an accredited university. The student should have the intention of practicing funeral service within Iowa after successful completion of graduation. The amount awarded varies between $500 and $2,000.

Iowa Grants for College

The Iowa Grant: This is a purely need-based grant, only for those students attending either independent or regent universities, or, independent or community colleges. The applicant must be residents of Iowa, already be enrolled in the recognized institutions within the state, and should have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The maximum award per year is $1,000. It is renewable for a further three years.

Student loans are another option of financial aid for college. Although the money you receive will need to be repaid with interest, the interest rate is very low. This low interest rate makes it very affordable for students.

I am a single mother of 2 children trying to get information on grants to go to college. Penn Foster has a vet tech program i would like to get a degree in. Thank you for any help you can provide
