Florida State offers a number of scholarships to deserving candidates to pay for their tuition, books, board and lodging during their university years. Scholarships in Florida
Below is a list of some Florida Scholarships which can be availed by applying to the Florida Dept. of Education:
- Academic Scholars Award: The student will be eligible for this scholarship if he / she has a 3.0 grade point average. The scholarship entitles the holder to $125 per hour of credit. The FAS also has a subcategory known as the Academic Top Scholar that gives $53 extra for every credit hour in case of exceptional students.
- Medallion Scholars Award: A 2.75 grade average is required by the student to qualify for the Medallion Scholars Award.$94 per hour of credit is given to selected candidates.
- Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award: A similar 2.75 GPA is required to qualify. Lastly, the Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award is focused more on vocational certification, mainly for a variety of technical professions. This scholarship too, gives a grant of up to $94 per credit hour.
- Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship: This scholarship is given only in four universities. If you want to apply for this aid, you must have a GPA of 3.0, and be able to prove that you are indeed in need of funds for further studies. The maximum amount given by this scholarship program so far has been $3,000 for one academic year.
- Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship: This scholarship is open to both real and virtual campuses anywhere in the U.S. An applicant is compulsorily required to be a resident of Florida and his authorized school administrator must also nominate him for the scholarship. A sum of $1,500 per annum is given.
- Rosewood Family Scholarship: This grant is given to descendants of Rosewood Town residents, who were killed in a public massacre in 1923. One needs to have proof of being a direct descendant and 25 students are eligible each year. They are given a scholarship of $4,000. It can be renewed for a four-year course in any college or vocational school with accreditation. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required to apply.
Florida Grants For College
Grants are also a great way to get access to education without having to pay for it. The best part about grants is that they do not have to be repaid, and therefore they are very competitive to get. - Florida Public Student Assistance Grant – Between $200 to $1672 is awarded each year to a number of undergraduate students attending Florida college.
