Scholarships in Delaware

Diamond State Scholarship: Fifty scholarships of $1,250 are awarded each year to the full-time students enrolled for a degree program at a regionally accredited (non-profit) institution. Applicants must be residents of Delaware with a combined SAT score of 1800 and ranked among the upper 25% in class. The grant is renewable for three years subject to maintaining 3.0 GPA
Scholarship Incentive Program: A student who has completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered automatically for this scholarship. Applicants should be Delaware residents and have 2.5 GPA (scale of 4.0). Graduates are awarded 1,000 per year and undergraduate students can get anywhere between $700 and $2,200 based on GPA range. Students must be already enrolled for a full-time graduate or undergraduate degree program at a non-profit and regionally accredited institution that is not offered at Delaware University or for undergraduate degree program at a non-profit and regionally accredited institution at Delaware or Pennsylvania. Certificate programs and graduates attending Delaware public colleges are not eligible.

- Robert C. Byrd Scholarship: Twenty awards are granted each year to Delaware-residing students fulfilling certain criteria. Applicant must be enrolled at a accredited institution on full-time basis, have a combined SAT score of 1800 and must be either ranked in top 25% of the class or with a GED score of 300. Annual award amount is $1,500 and renewable for three years if the student shows fair academic progress.
- Christa McAuliffe Teacher Incentive Program: This is an obligation-bound program where the award is in the form of a loan and the student has to teach at any Delaware public school for a period equal to receiving assistance for “loan forgiveness”. Delaware applicants should enroll in a Delaware college for an undergraduate program that leads to a teacher’s certificate. Undergraduates require 2.75 GPA and high school seniors must have combined SAT score of 1570 and rank in top half of class. The amount of loan covers direct education-related expenses along with the regular fees and tuition, and is renewable for three years only if the GPA is maintained. Priority is to those applicants that plan to teach in a critical need area.
- Charles L. Hebner Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is for students majoring in social sciences or the humanities with preference to political science. Delaware resident applicant must be enrolled full-time in Delaware State University or University of Delaware. High school seniors from the top half of class should also have a combined SAT of 1350. The award pays for most expenses and can be renewed for three years subject to 3.0 GPA.
Delaware Grants for College
Governor’s Education Grant for Working Adults: Working students aged 18 years being high school graduates or secured the GED can enroll in Delaware-based institutions that agree to contribute 10% of the fees. The Governor’s grant awards a maximum of $2,000 per year.
